Have you seen Jesus lately? If you haven't, you seem to be in the minority. Lately there have been a myriad of sightings of images of Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
Just this year, an image of Jesus or "Cheesus" was found in another Bag of Cheetos. This is not the first time he has been found in a bag of Cheetos. Can you blame him? Cheetos are cool.
It isn't often people find spiritual sustenance in a bag of Cheetos, but Sara Bell was munching on the cheesy snacks on her way home with her husband from Houston, Texas, when she was left with one in her hand. She happened to look down and "Jesus appeared" she jokingly remarked.
After all, He is the Frito-Lay, the truth and the life....isn't He?
Joyce Simpson, who saw the face of Jesus in a forkful of spaghetti on a billboard in Georgia. Numerous other people called to say they had seen it as well, though some claimed the image was singer Jim Morrison or country star Willie Nelson.
Rita Rachen spotted the image of Jesus holding a small child on the side of a soybean oil tank in Ohio, almost driving off the road in the process. Numerous believers visited the site before the tank was repainted, covering the image.
Arlene Granger saw the face of Christ on the side of an old refrigerator she had dragged out onto her porch. The image was created by the neighbor's porch light reflecting off the side of the appliance. After several thousand visitors traveled to the Tennessee site, Arlene's neighbors disconnected their porch light, ending the sightings.
Maria Rubio was cooking burritos one day when she noticed a 3 inch face of Jesus burned into a tortilla. She framed the tortilla and built a shrine in her living room. Since 1977, more than 11,000 people have visited the shrine. Are you kidding me?
A Florida family sold a 10 year old grilled cheese sandwich on Ebay for $28,000 that was said to have the face of the Virgin Mary emblazened on the sandwich.
Now I have not seen Jesus or Mary hanging around in a bag of doritos or pretzels or any other snack food. Nor have I seen Him on the side of my refrigerator. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
I'm pretty sure I have seen the devil though. Let's see...she's five feet seven inches tall, long blonde hair, blue eyes, mini-skirt, skin tight wet t-shirt,.....oh, well, I think you get the visual.
This is all a bit silly. Are people that desperate to find Jesus today? Maybe. But my daddy always told me that Jesus is always with us. Jesus even told His disciples that "He is with them always."
The saddest part of all is that people today are so desperate to find some glimmer of hope in their lives that they will travel great distances to see an image of Jesus on the side of a refrigerator. How sad.
You know, come to think of it, I think I have seen Jesus. Well maybe. Maybe it was George Bush. I'm not sure... What do you think? I think I better get my eyes checked. Be well. Don't take life so seriously.
