Love Thy Neighbor

Neighbors.  We all have them and some are definitely better than others.  I bet they say the same thing about me. The American Columnist, Arthur Baer, wrote, "A good neighbor is someone who smiles at you over the back fence, but doesn't climb over it."  How true...

When I was growing up I remember that we had quite the cast of neighbors.  There was "Skinny" Martin, Normal and Orville Plummer, Old Miss Wilson, O.M. Evans (Old Man Evans), Aunt Birdie and Uncle Biddie, and Pappy Roach.  Just to name a few.  All of them had their quirks, however, there wasn't anything they wouldn't do for you.  All of them had big, kind hearts.  And all of them took care of their house and their yards.

Since getting married and moving away, I have had the pleasure of living next to The Devil, The Working Man, Goat Man, and a cast of characters that are pictured above.  The names have been left out to protect the innocent.

Hey listen, there are good ones out there like the Adamo's.  But you have to admit, you don't socialize with your neighbors.  Oh, you're kind and you're civil but you talk about them after you see them or visit with them.  And there are things they do that drive you nuts.  Kind of like that weird uncle that everyone has in their family.

Well, I gotta go, the neighbors damn dog is in my yard again.  I hope he likes the anti-freeze I put in that old water bowl.  Only kidding....
