This morning I received an email from a friend who was lamenting the loss of her pet. I could feel the emotion in her thoughts with each word I read.
In our family, our pets have always been treated like one of the family. So much so, that during his life, I only saw my dad cry three times. Once was when our dog "Useless" was put down. That day we all lost a little "dog shaped" piece of our heart.
We have a dog named Lucy. She is my buddy and my wife's protector and shadow. Hell, she even has her own facebook account. I am not sure what I would do if something happened to her. Why is that? She's a really big part of our family. That's the way it should be.
So, thanks to my friend's email, I was reminded that our pets are a blessing from God. I think tonight I'll give Lucy a bath and then I'll give her that belly rub I've been promising her for the last few days.
