Recently, I read an article about "The Talents of a Middle-Aged Brain." This was intriging nonetheless because I am middle-aged and I have a brain. Well, at least the first part of that statement is true, however, the second part is brought into question on a somewhat frequent basis by my family and co-workers.
The article explained that middle-age now stretches from 40 years old to 65 years old. How exciting! At this point in my life, the article explained, inductive reasoning and problem solving should be at an all time high and social expertise should be at its peak. All based on our prior learnings, teaching and adaptation to our environment (whatever the hell that means).
Now, that's all well and good, but could you please tell me where I left my keys? And, while you're at it, explain to me why I can remember stuff from my childhood like it was yesterday but I can't remember why I just walked into the room?
I saw this poor middle-aged bastard the other day in the mall parking lot trying to remember where he parked his car. I think the medical term for his condition is Malls-heimers disease. I thought to myself..."Well at least I'm not that bad...yet" and then I remembered I better get going, I have to pick up ole whathisname over at the thingamagig by whatevertime....
Be Well.
