On this day 30 years ago I married my sweetheart. More importantly, I married my best friend. As two young adults we had no idea what we were getting into. All we knew was that we loved each other and that together we could do anything.
You know, there is no magic formula for long-lasting marriages. In our case, we just stayed at it year after year. Getting married at a young age brings its own series of hardships. Could, or should, we have done things differently? Sure...but I wouldn't have changed anything about those early years.
In our marriage, I've been the one who has struggled over the years with life and its complexities. Donna has been steady and the anchor that has held our lives and marriage together over three decades. She deserves the credit for our latest marriage milestone.
Looking back at our wedding photos, I see 2 kids who were surrounded by friends and family. That's all we had back then. In my pursuit of wanting a better life for my children, I've forgotten what's important along the way sometimes...thankfully, my wife hasn't.
So here's to you, Honey, I love you. And thanks to all our friends and family who have shared this amazing 30 year journey with us.
There is one little piece of advice I'll share...We have this sign in our bedroom that reads, "Always Kiss Me Goodnight." It hangs on the wall opposite our bed - it is the last thing we see before we turn out the light. We always make sure we kiss each other goodnight.
Be Well.
