Last night I was looking at some photo's that a friend posted on Facebook. They were photo's from the 1960's and 1970's. Many of the images were taken in a section of town called Mapleside which is where I grew up. I recognized most of the houses and many of the kids that were in the pictures. It brought back a lot of memories.
Since that time many things have changed. I didn't see an Xbox in any of the pictures. Come to think of it there were no Ipods or cell phones in any of the pictures either. There were a few "Spider" bikes and kids playing baseball in the pictures. But mostly, kids were just playing outside and spending time with their families.
I read recently about the latest malady which reflects a sign of our times. Teenagers and young adults are being diagnosed with something called "Cell Phone Elbow". Could I make this up? I think the closest I've ever come to something like that maybe is "Road Rage Finger", but that's about it.
The point is, that when I was growing up, we played outside everyday. Everyday. We had no cell phones, no personal computers, no gaming systems. I not really sure if kids are better off today with all of the "stuff" that they have...me and my friends, we turned out all right without all that stuff. Well, at least my friends turned out all right.
Be Well.
