I love a good quote. Recently, I read this quote from Theodore Roosevelt, "Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or leave the country." I couldn't have said it better myself.
Enough already...my ATM is in English and Spanish. The car dealership I visited recently had a big sign that read Hablamos Espanol. While at one of my sons basketball tournaments we stopped at a Dunkin Donuts that had some sign that was in English, Spanish and some other goddamn language I didn't understand. And, Igmar the Indian, the Dunkin Donut cashier and non-gloved donut putter in the bagger, didn't understand one word I said, but was somehow able to deliver most of what we ordered. When we left he said, "Shiney Mogma" whatever the hell that meant.
It's frustrating and there's nothing I can do about. Oh, I could brush up on my Spanish or learn the language of Shiney Mogma but I think Teddy Roosevelt was right. Learn the language or get the hell out.
So here's to Miss Davis and Miss Moore who taught me how to read and write. And, here's to Miss Bowen who made learning English fun. Thank you ladies.
Now, I'm off to the local 7-11 to find out what the hell "Shiney Mogma" means...
Be Well.
