It's no secret that I'm an early riser. My mom used to say that I was "up before the birds." Well, recently I've been being woke up by a certain robin that likes to sing in the maple tree right outside my bedroom window.
At first I didn't mind because I was getting up anyway. But then I realized that this damn bird won't shut up. It sings in the morning. It sings during the day. It sings right up until it gets dark outside. It gets a few hours rest and then starts all over again. I'm thinking no bird can be that happy.
And you know what? I was right...
It seems that birds really only sing or chirp for two reasons...One is to signal a prospective mate that they are ready for some bird sex. Like the whores and pimps on the block in downtown Baltimore, birds put out the call that they are ready for the down and dirty.
The second reason is to signal their territory. Perched in the tree a bird will shout out that this is their turf and if you come near it there's gonna be a bird fight. This may also explain why another bird in our apple tree likes to dive bomb my head every time I walk by. Damn birds...
So there you have it. This robin in my maple tree has either watched too many re-runs of Two And A Half Men or he thinks he's Dirty Harry, I'm not sure which. But if he doesn't shut up soon, I'm going to introduce him to Mr. Shut The Fuck Up.
Be Well.
