I've Got Your Time Saver Right Here...

Here's what I've noticed...modern communication is full of symbolic acronyms. You know what I'm talking about...LOL (laugh out loud), TTYL (talk to you later) and my favorite LMFAO (laugh my fu$%ing ass off).

Many of these acronyms have developed in the computer and texting era to save time. I get it. Everyone loves to save time. But there is one symbolic phrase that I use all the time that didn't get it's start in the computer era. Are you ready? It's XOXOX...the universal symbol for kisses and hugs.

Somewhere in my cranium I remember someone telling me that the symbol X started being used back in the Middle Ages when illiterate people signed their contracts with an "X". They would then kiss the signature to signify its validity and invoke a blessing from God. As for the letter O, I have no idea where in the hell that came from, but here's my theory.

I think the letter O kind of looks like the top view of two arms embracing. Don't see it? Maybe if you squint a little and turn your head just to the right...there...that's it.

So you can say that I'm old-fashioned and that maybe I'm just a little illiterate but it never hurts to tell a loved one or a close friend that you love them and that you're sending some kisses and hugs their way. Those of you who know me, well, you know I'm famous for my bear hugs.

So, the next time you're using all your high tech acronyms to save you some time, don't forget the oldest and best symbol to convey how you feel...XOXOX

Be Well.
