I admit it...I love a nice big bowl of ice cream. My favorite flavor of the milky madness is Cherry Vanilla. I also love to drink chocolate malt shakes and I've also been known to go into a diabetic coma after eating a large Snickers Blizzard from Dairy Queen. Ah...the simple pleasures in life...they're the best!
Growing up in my hometown it was a real treat to go down to the Queen City Dairy and get some ice cream on a hot summer night. It seemed like all my friends were there and we'd hang out and try to eat our ice cream cones before they melted all over us from the summer time heat. God, those were good times.
To me, few things in life are more innocent than a good bowl of ice cream. Today, however, I read an article on how some ice cream companies use milk from cows injected with a genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rBGH). Huh? Okay so the cows are bigger...big deal. They are the Mark McGwire's of Cow Town. But wait...This hormone is bad news. Increased levels of this crap in the cows milk have been linked to breast, colon and prostate cancer in humans. Holy Udderly Ridiculous Batman!
So here's the scoop...Ben & Jerry's ice cream is rBGH free but watch out for Haggen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins. I guess "All Natural" doesn't mean All Natural when it comes to advertising. Holy cow, my head is spinning. Why do they need to put this crap in my ice cream?
All I want is a nice big bowl of Cherry Vanilla ice cream without having to worry that I'm going to grow a third nipple and get butt cancer. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so...
Be Well.
