Family Secret

Here is something that will come as no surprise to anyone who knows me...I love chocolate. While there are all sorts of varieties of the delectable delight, my favorite pure chocolate treat is the M&M. And not just any M&M...The GREEN M&M.

I am not sure when I first tasted the chocolaty treat but I suspect it was at my grandparents house. They always had M&M's in the candy jar and come to think of it, Pap always made sure there were chocolate fudgesicles in the freezer. When I was old enough to start dating he pulled me aside and said, "Billy, when you're out with your girl always make sure you take some M&M's with you...trust me." Hmm...I think I might be onto something here.

My grandfather was as smooth as they come. I think it is no coincidence that his smoothness and his chocolate addiction went hand-in-hand. So, I did some investigating. Just what is the secret ingredient in chocolate that turned my grandfather into a modern-day Don Juan?

Here's what I found. Chocolate contains this horny little chemical known as Phenylethylamine. It's the little demon responsible for releasing those little feel good things called endorphins into your brain. It is the same chemical released as when someone falls in love. But wait! There's more! It also triggers another chemical reaction in your brain and causes this stuff called dopamine to be released into the pleasure centers of the brain. Hint: Dopamine is what is released internally when someone has the big "O" or the big "OMG"!

So now I know why Pap always had a smile on his face. You see, Pap had not only figured out the secret to love and romance but he figured out how to get the most out of it. He didn't need Viagra. He had those little green M&M's and a fudgesicle chaser. No wonder granny always looked like she had just run a marathon. Pap had been chasing her around 1012 Kent Avenue all day.

Be Well.
