Sometimes It's Hard To Laugh

I was having a conversation with someone today and I knew what they were telling me was not the truth.  As they continued talking, I began looking at their pants to see when they were going to catch on fire.

While their was no pyrotechnic show during our conversation, I was reminded of something that Homer Simpson once said, "It takes two to lie.  One to lie and one to listen."  Thanks, Homer, you are right on the money.  Taking Homer's advice, I interrupted the person and asked, in my best Bill Kirby voice, "Do I have 'Stupid' written across my forehead?"  The conversation only went downhill after that.

All I was looking for was some honesty.  That's it...but I think it must be in short supply these days.  When I was growing up, if I really wanted my parents to know I was telling the truth, I would say the phrase "Honest Injun" after pleading my case.  I guess that was like saying 'Scouts Honor' or something.  Now Honest Injun is not to be confused with "Honest Achmed".  Anyone who says "Honest Achmed" is really expressing a non-truth.  For example, "I love you.  I will never hurt you.  Honest Achmed."  And then they kill you with a car bomb.

Recently, I told someone to 'Keep Laughing'.  They replied by saying that it's "...not always easy to laugh about the things that cut us the deepest though."  Now there's honesty.  It's not always easy or possible to laugh sometimes.  The reason I try to keep laughing is because if I don't laugh, I think I'll cry.

Later today I have to meet with the same truth stretching individual.  What he doesn't seem to understand is that you can only stretch the truth so far and then it will snap back on you.  Oh well, just to be safe, I'm taking a fire extinguisher to the meeting just in case his pants catch on fire because he's such a liar, liar...

Be Well.
