The other day I was reading through the updates on one my favorite social network sites and I noticed that a number of people kept posting "Jesus is the answer" on their status. I might as well tell you now that this You probably know the story of the pastor who was giving a children's sermon one Sunday and he asked the kids, "What has a bushy tail and gathers nuts?" The kids gave him blank stares. "Come on kids!" he tried again. "Bushy tail? Gathers nuts? Climbs Trees?" Finally a precocious kid replied, "Well, I know the answer is Jesus...but it sure sounds like a squirrel to me."
When someone is in church or Sunday School then I think 95% of the time the answer is Jesus. But let's be honest...Jesus is not the answer to everything. Even when He walked the earth He wasn't the answer to everything. Here's one for you...He healed the blind man but didn't wipe out blindness from the face of the earth. People today pray to be healed from cancer but Jesus doesn't always heal them.
The problem with the "Jesus is the answer" statement is that it is pretty shallow when you think about it. It is as shallow as the "Blab it and Grab it" or "Name it and Claim it" mentality of some preachers today. "Just ask God for what you want and he'll give it to you!" I don't think that's what God is all about.
Being a Christian is tough. Anyone who claims to be a Christian and says it's easy is lying. Actually, maybe they're not. And here's why...they are a Christian in name only. Being a Christian requires growing closer to God everyday. That means praying, studying the Bible and sharing your faith. Not just with the Sunday crowd but everyone you come into contact with each day. It's talking the talk but it's also walking the walk.
I know people mean well when they say that Jesus is the answer but let's make sure of the question before we just give out answers.
Be Well.
