I've learned a great deal of things during my lifetime. Sure, some of it was from schools and teachers and professors, but most of the lessons I've learned about life have been from interacting with other people. There is no school for that. But last night I came to the realization that there is a lot I've learned about life from my dog, Lucy. This came to me as she and I were conversing in Spanish during American Idol. I was thinking...not only is she beautiful but she is smart. In her own quiet way as she has lived life, I realized I've learned a lot from her.
1. Enjoy the simple things in life. Like naps or a cold drink of water on a hot day.
2. Let your loved ones know your love them. When someone you love comes through the front door, rush over to them and give them a big kiss to welcome them home.
3. Don't be afraid to ask someone to play with you. When was the last time you played catch with someone? Sometimes you might just need to grab a ball or a Frisbee and go play. It's a little hard for someone to say "no" to you when you already have the Frisbee in your mouth.
4. Trust Your Instincts. We have a neighbor that Lucy absolutely hates. Normally Lucy is a lover but not with this guy. Dogs have an innate sense of good and evil. If someone gives you the "willy's" they are probably a creep. Listen to your heart.
5. Spend time with the ones you love. Everywhere we go in the house or the yard she goes. She can't get close enough to us. She loves spending time with her family.
That's not everything she's taught me but it's a good start. I'd write more but it's time for me to take her to her singing lessons. She's such a diva.
Be Well.
