Recently, one of my long time friends made the comment that he and I were "Bro's". He further went on to say, "You know that we're Bro's...right?" I guess I never thought about it before, however, the more I reflected on his proclamation, the more I began to see the word 'Bro' in a whole new light. The Urban Dictionary defines the word Bro as "Your homie for life." And they define Homie as "Someone you grew up with and/or have shared some bonding experiences." Bingo. Got it. Now this should not be confused with the word, Hoe, which the Urban Dictionary describes as, "A skank and/or a woman who is loose in the booty."
This gives new meaning to the phrase, "Bro's before Hoe's", now doesn't it?
I'll be honest, I have never called anyone my 'Bro' and I'm not sure I have been called 'Bro' by anyone before. Oh, my god...am I that white? I think I have been missing out on something. Over the last week I have been thinking about just how many Bro's I might just have. I think the answer is less than ten...and here's why. A Bro is someone who will drop everything and anything to help you out. They won't just go to jail to visit you...they will be in there with you. They would give you the shirt off their back and the last dollar in their pocket. It doesn't matter if it has been 20 years since I've last seen them, they would do anything to help me out.
You see, a Bromance is sacred. It is a trust. It is a bond. Sure, I have a lot of friends, but very few Bro's. A lot of people will say they will do anything for you but very few will. Just ask Jesus.
I think my new mission will be to advance the cause of the Broman Empire. It's time I reconnect with my Bro's. As I made my Bro List, I discovered that most of my Bro's are guys that I grew up with. I think subconsciously I already knew that. Time to check the calendar and plan a trip back to my hometown soon, so that I can see some of my old friends Bro's.
