Keep Walking

"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness."  ~  Lamentations 3:22,23

Recently somebody told me that we only have one shot at life so we better get it right.  As he walked away, I just kind of stood there thinking about what he said.  For some reason, his logic didn't register correctly in my kirbyoblongata.  I just kept thinking... "we only have one shot at life so we better get it right."  Nope.  Still didn't make sense.

Maybe what he meant to say was that we only live once so we better make the most of it.  Perhaps.  But that is not what he said.  In reality, we have a new shot at life every day.  As a Christian, I thank God every day for His mercy and His compassion.  Let's face it, Christians aren't perfect.  Nobody is.  Especially me.  I stumble quite frequently on my daily walk with the Lord, however, I get back up and continue my walk.

It's rather funny to me that some people think you have to be perfect in order to be a Christian.  Now, let me clarify...  I am not saying that you can say that you are a Christian and then go do whatever you feel like doing.  No more than you can say that you are a car by going and standing in garage.  What I am saying is that the whole reason we needed forgiveness in the first place was because we are imperfect.

So, let's get back to this one shot at life and getting it right.  In my life, I am the King of Do-overs.  My golf game is a great testament to that.  You might even call me Billy Mulligan.  I don't mean to screw up; I just do.  And until recently, I used to beat the crap out of myself when I did.  (It's that whole forgiveness thing I've been writing about...)  Thanks to God, His mercy and compassion are eternal.  They are new every single day.  They never end.  Even a screw up like me gets another chance.  Oops!  See, there I go beating myself up again.  Let's have a do-over...  Thankfully, that applies to me too!  Thank you, God.

Everyday I get emails and messages from people who say that they struggle with many of the same issues that I do.  Well, perhaps the thing that has meant the most to me is knowing that when I do screw up, I have a loving God who loves me despite my imperfections.  No matter you've done in this life God is reminding us today that His mercy and compassion are new every day.  See, I told you that you have more than one shot in this life to get it right.

Be Well.
