"Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is not giving the kiss the attention it deserves." ~ Albert Einstein
Today I went to my happy place. You know, that place you go when life seems overwhelming sometimes. Actually, I have several places that I go to that have the "Happy Place" address. But today I went to one of my favorites. I closed my eyes for a moment and I went back in time to a place and moment that forever changed my life.
So there I was back in 1974... I was spending the day with this beautiful teenage girl and in the course of being teenagers, we kissed. Now that may not seem like a big deal because teenagers kiss all the time but this was my first kiss. By first kiss, I mean my first "rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air" kiss. You know, one of those kisses where two tongues dance the forbidden dance of teenage love. As we kissed, my palms went sweaty and my heart skipped three beats as I struggled to regain my breath. It lasted only a moment, but in that moment, time stood still.
Opening my eyes, I returned to my work-a-day world but with a different attitude. I mean, how could I not be in a better frame of mind after visiting my happy place? My first kiss... let me help you understand. Since that first kiss, I have kissed that same girl at least five million times. You see, just like Barbara Bush, I married the first person I ever kissed. Had we not shared that first kiss, we would not have dated, I would not have proposed, we would not have gotten married, we would not have had four wonderful children and I would most likely be writing this blog from prison. That first kiss changed my life.
We all have happy places and today I visited one of my favorites. I think maybe later on tonight I'll ask Donna if she wants to take a trip down memory lane.
Be Well.
Bill
