Chicken Soup for Couples

"The first step of the cure is a kiss."  ~  Gene Simmons

Recently, Mrs. Planet Kirby and I were asked why our relationship has been so successful and how we were able to handle the difficult situations that we've faced as a couple.  Before I could answer, my wife told our curious friend, "We do everything together."  Maybe those weren't the words of wisdom he was seeking but it was the truth.  There really has been no magic formula; we have always been best friends, and as such, we always did everything together.  We enjoy each other.

We've been a couple for over 38 years now.  I think that just might qualify us as "Experts" on the topic of being a couple.  Now, I'm not saying that we haven't had our share of fights and "heated discussions" but the fact remains that after all these years we're still standing.  In addition to being best buddies we really try to put each others needs ahead of our own.  It's that whole golden rule for couples thing that we do.

Honestly, Mrs. Planet Kirby gets most of the credit for our relationship longevity.  At our church she has been elevated to Sainthood and she is the Patron Saint of Suffering for Married Couples.  A dubious honor bestowed upon her for being married to me for so long.

Oh, there's one more thing we try to do every day.  Actually, it's one thing we try to do every night.  In our bedroom, we have a sign that hangs on the wall opposite of our bed.  It reads simply, "Always kiss me good night."  It's amazing how a kiss from your sweetie before you go to sleep helps make everything you faced during the day a distant memory.

Be Well.
