"Surround yourself only with people who are going to lift you higher." ~ Oprah Winfrey
Lately I've been thinking about what it means to be a genius. As the king of self-proclaimed titles, I recently designated myself as one in a photo that was snapped during our family vacation to the Outer Banks. What is so humorous about this is that anyone who knows me realizes that this was a joke. A big joke. Or was it?
Let's see what my friends at the Urban Dictionary have to say about the word genius...
Genius: "Someone who is really cool, smart and creative." Great! Now, let's use it in a sentence...
"Hey, that's Bill Kirby over there, he's a genius." Bingo!
I think that most people, siblings excluded, based on that definition and use in a sentence, would tend to agree that I am a genius. But sometimes it is hard for those who are kin, you know, blood, to accept the fact that little brother grew up and did pretty damn darn good for himself and his family. They have a tough time accepting that they just aren't as cool, smart and creative as the favorite child. Oh, but I'm just kidding around. Or am I?
The Planet Kirby faithful will know that I'm just a love machine which means that there is no room in my life for negative people. Planet Kirby is the planet of peace and love. So, when the limits of my tolerance are breached I have no choice but to dismiss people from my life. Nobody is going to rob me of my joy. And that is genius in its most perfect definition.
Just remember: "When life hands you lemons make grape juice, then sit back and watch as the world wonders how you did it."
Be Well.
Bill
