The Power Of A Photo

"I hate to have my picture taken.  I never know what to do with my hands..."  ~  Bill Kirby

Today my favorite social network site reminded me that exactly one year ago today I posted a photo of my grandson with the caption, "My life isn't perfect but it does have perfect moments.  This past weekend I got to hang out with my buddy, Carson..."  The photo wasn't anything special, just a quick snapshot taken with my iPhone of him hanging out on the deck of The Kirbarosa with Pappy.  It reminded me of just how fast little kids grow up.  The power of a photo...

Over the years, we have probably taken a Kirbzillion photo's of all of us Kirby's.  All of the Kirby Kids have been captured with photo's taken on the first day of school, at their sporting events, birthday parties, and any many other special events too numerous to capture.  But, perhaps my favorite photo's are those taken when nothing special was going on, we were just being ourselves.

I love snapping pictures.  Now, while I am not great at focusing my subject matter, I take pictures of just about everything.  I've captured photo's of my sushi on boat and me on a mountain with a goat.  I've captured moments of fun with my wife and special times throughout my life.  Now, before I become Dr. Seuss, let me say this about that...

All photo's are powerful.  I've always felt that a photo captures an instant of life that will never cease to look back at you.  A photo can be a time machine that instantly transports you back in time.  A photo can stir senses and emotions long lost to the daily grind of life.  A photo can remind you of just how simple life used to be.  A photo can remind you of just how awesome God really is.

These days I take a lot of pictures of my grandchildren.  I mean, I am a proud Pappy.  But I do love to look at old photo's from my childhood.  Photo's of my parents and my grandparents.  These photo's have become even more meaningful since they have gone on to be with the Lord.  They help me remember where I came from and just how blessed I am to have had them in my life.  I could go on but I think everyone reading this knows exactly what I am talking about...

When I'm writing my blogs there is a "save" button that I click to save my work.  It captures my writing at a particular point in time.  I think the same is true of a photo.  It's like a "save" button for the mind.

So, what are you waiting for?  Get out there and capture some memories.  And let me know if you figure out what to do with your hands...

Be Well.
