I have always believed that God will bring the right people into your life at exactly the right moment. Sometimes we may not always know the reason for our interaction until much later or we may never know the reason that God caused our paths to cross. Be that as it may, what I have learned, as I trek across the canvass of my life, is that I should always try to take away something valuable from each encounter.
Moreover, I have learned that I need to approach each day with curiosity, a watchful eye and an open mind. Sometimes, if we are too busy with life, we might miss some of the most poignant lessons and blessings that God has brought our way. And then, there are other times, like this past weekend, where I was the benefactor of some poignant lessons, some blessings, and some off the wall learnings - some of which I'm not sure that I'll ever need to know again.
Anyway, here are a few of my life learnings (some new and some reminders) that came out of this past weekends trip to my old home town. I am very thankful for all of my friends, both old and new, for being such a special part of my life.
True beauty is found on the inside. Vodka should never cost $90 a bottle. It is possible to be a tree moss expert. Pastors should be encouraged to be themselves. We should be moved out of our comfort zones on a more frequent basis. Sometimes, in order to heal on the inside, you need to forgive yourself and move on. A loving spouse is the greatest gift that a person can find. Steamed crabs taste best when you are enjoying them with friends. Evidently, basements are very good places to make memories. If you have a fire-engine red tub/shower combo in your bathroom, it can also be used as a time machine. Always look to repay the kindness that others once showed to you.
It was wonderful how all weekend God reminded me how He placed each one of these friends in my life. I believe it was Emerson who said, "It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them." And for that I am thankful.
Be Well.
